Space Shuttle emits sonic boom as it passes over Montgomery

The Space Shuttle marked its passage over Montgomery with a rare sonic boom as it zoomed about 36 miles overheard shortly before 8 Tuesday morning. The shuttle's landing trajectory took it almost directly over the area. It was traveling about 16,000 mph when it passed overhead and landed safely at Kennedy Space Center a few minutes later.
