Ann Street widening project

Major road construction is planned for Midtown Montgomery on Ann Street, when  the section between Highland Avenue and the Atlanta Highway will be expanded from three lanes to four.

The city hosted a public meeting about the project Tuesday night to make sure there aren't any surprises when construction begins.

The city is already widening the portion of Ann Street in front of Wal-Mart.  In addition to the widening, one big part of the project will be re-aligning Ann Street with Federal Drive where both streets meet the Atlanta Highway.

City officials met with residents in the area to ask if anybody knows of any unmarked cemeteries or other underground impediments before going ahead with construction.

Barring any opposition, that construction should begin in about a year.  The project is being paid for with both federal and city dollars.
