MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A candidate for Alabama State Treasurer got a plug on television Monday night courtesy of the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno".

Leno poked fun at candidate Young Boozer's name in the popular Headlines segment.

Leno prefaced the piece with the admission that the candidate was probably a "very qualified candidate", but that he had "the worst name for a politician."

Boozer was amused when asked for his reaction. "I've carried this name around all my life and it certainly gets attention," he said. "My hope is that people will hear the name and want to learn more about my qualifications to be Alabama's next State Treasurer."

Boozer, born in Birmingham and raised in Tuscaloosa, says he was once a water boy for Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. He went on to hold degrees Stanford University and Wharton School of Business.

He's spent nearly four decades managing finances for firms around the country. He's also served as Chairman of the Board for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and on the Board of Trustees for Stanford.

"Jay Leno may think I have a funny name. But I'll bring serious leadership to the Treasurer's Office," Boozer said.

He faces George Wallace, Jr. in the Republican primary set for June.
