DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) – As the end of the school year draws closer community groups are gearing up for ways to help overcome possible teacher layoffs and budget cuts.
The Dothan City School System has to cut around $5 million from their 2010-2011 budgets.
The grim news is disappointing for groups like Dothan's Adopt-A-School program but members say it's a chance for them take more of an active role.
"It's our job as a community to be there and help the schools when times are tough," says Lavonda Gosselin.
Gosselin plans to spend her summer brainstorming ways she and other parents can fill the gaps that budget cuts will create for next year.
She says even though the future isn't written in stone, optimism goes a long way.
