Authorities arrest 127 for DUI during race weekend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State Troopers Task Force Zero made 127 driving under the influence arrests during the four-day Talladega race weekend.

Authorities announced Monday that the task force - a unit of Alabama State Troopers that specializes in DUI detection - also issued 24 open container citations, 41 seat belt violations, 130 citations for other violations, and 30 warnings from Thursday through to midnight Sunday. Trooper Chad Joiner, a spokesman, says the number of DUI arrests by the task force was more than the late October race at Talladega, when the task force arrested 83 people on DUI charges. The task force conducts patrols around Talladega SuperSpeedway property during race weekends.
