AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - A judge has denied a motion by attorneys for Courtney Lockhart for a change of venue in his murder trial for the killing of 18-year-old Auburn University student Lauren Burk.

Burk, of Marietta, Ga., was found dying by the side of a road in 2008. Prosecutors say Lockhart, who was 23 at the time, forced her into her car, then robbed and shot Burk and left her to die.

Lockhart's attorneys argued that because of extensive pretrial publicity, he would not be able to receive a fair trial in Lee County.

Lee County Circuit Judge Jacob Walker ruled that newspaper articles submitted as evidence did not meet the standard of being prejudicial and inflammatory that would require a change of venue.
