Alabama defeats Mississippi Valley State 5-1

TUSCALOOSA, AL - The Alabama baseball team picked up its fifth straight win on Wednesday night, defeating the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 5-1 in front of 3,453 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Eight different Alabama pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts as the Crimson Tide used a myriad of arms in preparation for this weekend's series versus No. 3 South Carolina. Jason Townsend pitched a scoreless fifth inning to notch his second win of the season.

A solo home run by Clay Jones knotted the score at one in the bottom of the second inning. Alabama added one more in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead before a two-run pinch hit double by Andrew Miller in the seventh put some breathing distance between the Tide and the Delta Devils.

Jake Smith and Nathan Kilcrease combined for six strikeouts over the final 2 2/3 innings to shut the door on MVSU.

Alabama will travel to Columbia, S.C this weekend to take on the No. 3 Gamecocks in a crucial SEC series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. (CST).
