Harri Anne Smith seeking signatures to run as Independent

Dothan, AL (WSFA) – Senator Harri Anne Smith is calling on her supporters to help her get back on the ballot.

Earlier this month, the state Republican Party voted that she could not run as a Republican in the June Primary because she publicly supported Democrat Bobby Bright in his run for Congress in 2008.

She says after the overwhelming support from her district, she is looking to run as an Independent, but in order to do that, she must collect around 1,100 signatures.

Several of her supporters will hold a series of signature drives at locations throughout Senate District 29 this Saturday, April 30th.  The list of chairpersons for the "Take Back Our Vote Coalition" includes current and former mayors, and concerned citizens from throughout the district.

Smith said, "If the people want me to do this, I would love to run again.  And, I have already qualified.  I love what the people have given me the opportunity to do, and I would love for the people to have the opportunity to vote for their state senator on the ballot again."
