AUM Softball eliminated from conference tourney

COLUMBUS, GA - Ellen Black hit a two-out walk-off homerun to give Brenau University a 3-2 win over Auburn Montgomery in an elimination game at the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.

Brenau had taken a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Anna Maness hit a two-run homerun off Brandi Richards (13-6).

The Lady Senators came back to even the score in the top of the fifth on RBI singles from Sara Allen and Monica Hatcher.

AUM out hit Brenau 9-7 with Megan Rogers, Hatcher and Richards all collecting two hits each.

Brooke Bryant had to hits to lead Brenau's attack.

Maness (2-1) has pitched in each game of the tournament for Brenau and picked up the win.  She went the distance allowing all nine hits and striking out six.

Richards took the loss walking four and striking out eight.

In game one of the day, the Lady Senators were able to defeat Southern Wesleyan University (9-42) 8-0 in a five-inning affair.

Whitney Wyatt led the 13-hit attack with three hits and had a RBI.  Monica Hatcher had a hit and three RBI and Danielle Kirkpatrick had two hits, including her first homerun of the season.  Stacin Halverson had two hits and scored two runs.

Danielle Ryan (16-5) bounced back from yesterday's defeat to Faulkner to pick up the win.  She pitched four innings allowing only one hit and striking out four.  Stephanie Baxley came on in relief and finished the game pitching the fifth inning.

Tish Winchester and Sara Smith recorded the two hits for SWU and Casey Johnson picked up the loss.

AUM is now 35-19-1 and will wait to see if they receive an at-large berth to the NAIA Softball National Tournament.
