As much as 5 inches of rain fell over some parts of Alabama overnight, causing flooding of roads in some areas.
Roger McNeil of the National Weather Service in Mobile said Monday the worst flooding was in the Alexander City area in east central Alabama, where there were reports of police having to rescue people from cars in flooded roads. There were no reports of any injuries.
Alexander City police did not immediately respond to a request for more information about the flooding.
National Weather Service data showed the heaviest rain was in central Alabama, with many areas reporting more than 4 inches overnight. A total of 5.6 inches of rain was recorded in the Hackneyville area of northern Tallapoosa and southern Clay counties.
