AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Former New York City mayor and presidential candidate, Rudy Giuliani, visited the plains Monday night.

He spoke to Auburn University students, free of charge, about leadership in the face of crisis.

Giuliani said he hoped to give examples of how to train yourself to be more effective as a leader.

The former mayor said the most important thing in being a leader is you have to know what you believe in, what you want to accomplish and have goals of all sizes.

One of his proudest moments was the way he and his city responded to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

He encouraged young leaders to, "Take control of situations, get organized, inspire other people. I think this country is very much in need of young people emerging in the future. The United States has always been a country that has led the world."

Giuliani calls Ronald Reagan the most influential leader in his life because of his strong beliefs and his inability to let public opinion sway him.
