Two contract workers have been injured in an explosion while they were removing fuel from rockets at Redstone Arsenal.
A spokeswoman at the north Alabama Army base, Kimberly Henry, said there were no fatalities and all personnel were accounted for after the 8:45 a.m. Wednesday explosion.
The two injured workers were both taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where they were in the hospital's burn unit. Their conditions were not immediately known.
There was no word on the cause of the explosion. But Henry said it occurred while workers were removing a propellant, ammonium perchlorate, from the rockets. It's a process base officials call demilitarization.
Henry said a third person was working near the two injured workers, but was not hurt in the blast, which left parts of the building in wreckage.
