AU Men's Tennis to face Troy in NCAA Regional

AUBURN, AL -  The No. 31 Auburn men's tennis team was selected to participate in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, traveling to Gainesville, Fla., to face No. 55 Troy in the first round May 14.

Auburn (11-12) qualifies for its 11th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 18th overall. Of those 18 NCAA trips, 16 have come under head coach Eric Shore, who is in his 20th season with the Tigers.

The Tigers are 19-17 in the NCAA Tournament and will face Troy for the first time in the national tournament. The Trojans are making their first NCAA appearance in school history and stand at 20-4 on the season.

Troy recently captured the 2010 Sun Belt Conference title and is led by Sun Belt Coach of the Year Eric Hayes.

"Troy has a very good team this year and it's going to be a tough match for us," head coach Eric Shore said. "We have been playing Troy every year and played them earlier this season. We're happy to go down to Florida to see what we can do."

Auburn hosted Troy on Feb. 10 of this season and came away with the 5-2 victory at the City of Auburn/Auburn University Yarborough Tennis Center. During the match, the Tigers took singles wins on the front three courts and on court six, while sweeping the doubles play. With the win, Auburn improves its series record to 15-2 over the Trojans.

Auburn will be returning to action since the SEC Tournament, where the team finished their run in the semifinals with a loss to Florida, 4-1. During their conference run, Auburn defeated Arkansas and third-seeded Georgia en route to the semifinals.

The winner of next Friday's match will face the winner of Florida (19-4) and South Carolina State (11-10) in Gainesville the following day.
