MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - It's a tradition for airmen being deployed to tell loved ones "See you later," instead of saying "goodbye." Members of the 908th Airlift Wing from Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, who finally left for southwest Asia this morning at 8:40 a.m., said the hardest part of this particular deployment was having to say "See you later" so many times.
They were originally slated to leave last Sunday. But their departure was delayed multiple times and sometimes after long waits because of the ash cloud from the volcano in Iceland.
The unit of about 150 will spend about four months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
WSFA12 News will have the whole story on its noon news.
