COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - Columbus Police tell Fox 54 the search for suspects in the Lakebottom Park razor blade case will continue into the weekend.
Lieutenant Bruce Whitehead confirmed Friday afternoon no matches were found to fingerprints taken from the nine razor blades and duct tape found Tuesday on playground equipment at the park.
"After examining the duct tape, as well as the fingerprints that were raised off the razor blades, we were unable to get any usable fingerprints that would help us with prosecution in court," Whitehead said.
The points that were established from the fingerprints are not conclusive enough to be used to prosecute a suspect in court.
"You have to have so many points that are recognizable to be used as evidence. And these didn't have enough points right now. However, we are trying some other methods to try and raise some more points on the duct tape as well as the razor blades," Whitehead said.
As the investigation continues, police have now identified the serial numbers of the razor blades and are canvassing hardware and retail stores in Columbus for a match.
