Alabama tabbed as national No. 1 seed

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team was awarded the No. 1 national seed and the top seed in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional on Sunday night. The Crimson Tide was awarded its berth into the NCAA tournament at its selection show Sunday night at Buffalo Wild Wings in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide (48-9) will open regional play on Friday, May 21, at the Alabama Softball Complex against Alcorn State (18-19). The opening game of the regional will feature UAB (36-20) and Lipscomb (48-11). Alabama claimed the Southeastern Conference regular season and tournament title in the same season for the first time in program history.

The top-seeded Tide is making their 12th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament under the direction of head coach Patrick Murphy. It is the sixth straight year Alabama has been a host site for an NCAA Regional and the eighth time overall.

The Crimson Tide has captured seven NCAA Regional titles (2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and boasts a 29-9 record in regional play.

The winner of the Tuscaloosa Regional will play the winner of the NCAA Stanford Regional, which includes Hawaii, Stanford, UC Davis and Texas Tech, in NCAA Super Regional play. STORY AD BEGINS HERE
