Single vehicle crash claims life of Andalusia woman

OPP, AL - A single vehicle crash has claimed the life of an Andalusia woman and injured her eight year old son.

Sarah Elizabeth Jones, 26, of Andalusia, was traveling east on County Road 85 with her son when her vehicle left the roadway and over-turned.

The initial investigation indicates that the Jones' vehicle was traveling over the posted speed limit when she entered into a curve and ran off the road. Jones attempted to bring the vehicle back onto the roadway when she lost control and began to overturn.

Mrs. Jones, who was unrestrained, was ejected from her vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Covington County Coroner Norman Hodson. Her son was restrained and transported to Opp Mizzell Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at 7:45 a.m. about 8 miles west of Opp. Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
