Montgomery Police have arrested Roosevelt Ashley, 67, of 51 Phillip Street and charged him with murder in the Friday stabbing death of 55-year-old Gwendolyn Hailey. Investigation at the scene revealed that the victim answered a knock at the door at about 11:00 am, and when she opened the door the suspect stabbed her twice in the chest, according to a news release from MPD spokesman Capt. Keith Barnett.
Officers located Ashley walking up Phillip Street, still carrying the knife. When he refused to comply with officers' commands, he was taken into custody with the help of a police dog. Ashley was treated for minor dog bite wounds and taken to headquarters.
He is now in the Montgomery County Detention Facility where he's being held under $60,000 bond. The motive for this murder appears to be a domestic violence situation between an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend.
