State Tourism Department sends warning about beaches

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The oil spill has finally crept onto Alabama shores. The State Tourism Department is urging people to stay out the water.

Tar balls and oil have made its way to the Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Dauphin Island. The State Tourism warns people not to go to the beach, but to instead enjoy other attractions. The organization has pulled all of their ad's promoting the beaches and will launch a new campaign involving shopping and eating on the coast.

Don't be surprised if you see some familiar faces on the ads such as American Idol Winner Taylor Hicks, and Jimmy Buffet's Sister.  Directors say the new advertisement will keep tourism dollars in the state while helping those affected by the oil spill.
