Nowak named Sports Illustrated Hitter of the Week

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Southern League Monday announced that Chris Nowak has been named the Southern League Hitter of the Week for the period from May 31st-June 6th.

The Biscuits utilityman entered the week with 2 HR and 8 RBI on the season; during the week, he hit 3 HR and collected 8 RBI, including a 2-HR, 5-RBI performance Monday in Mississippi. Nowak was 10-27 overall on the week, and raised his season average 26 points to .224.

Nowak is the first Biscuit to win Hitter of the Week in 2010, and the 13th in franchise history. The award comes on the heels of Jake McGee's Pitcher of the Week honors.

The 27 year old is now in his fourth season with the Biscuits, and can be found throughout the Biscuits record books. He is most fondly known for his 2007 Southern League Championship MVP performance.

West Tenn's Mauricio Robles took home the Pitcher of the Week honors.

The Biscuits sit at 31-24, and with 13 games remaining in the first half, 2.5 games behind the Jacksonville Suns. The Biscuits are in the midst of a five-game set with the Suns right now, and having split the first two games, will look for a series advantage from Riverwalk Monday night at 7:05.
