HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Debra Moriarity has been named interim chair of the University of Alabama in Huntsville Biology Department, which was decimated by a mass faculty shooting in February.
Moriarity was present when three faculty members were killed at a faculty meeting on Feb. 12.
Assistant professor Amy Bishop is charged in the case. Gopi Podila, the previous department chair, was killed, along with faculty members Ariel Johnson and Maria Ragland Davis. Two other faculty members and a department staff assistant were wounded in the attack.
Moriarity survived the shootings when the pistol pointed at her jammed.
Moriarity says visiting scientists will be hired to teach courses previously taught by the shooting victims.
