GOP certifies gov.'s vote with James behind 167

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Republican Party has certified officials results from the primary election that show Tim James finished in third place in the governor's race by 167 votes.

Party Chairman Mike Hubbard handed the official results to Secretary of State Beth Chapman about 30 minutes before the deadline at noon Friday. He said the results are subject to the statewide recount requested by James. The results show Bradley Byrne first and Robert Bentley second. Election officials are meeting in Montgomery Friday afternoon to discuss how to do the recount. Hubbard says everyone is in uncharted territory because Alabama has never had a recount in a primary election for governor.
