    In my editorial on Tuesday I chided our legislators for being the last state to pass a no-brainer  bill legalizing home brewing.  Today I want to challenge them to be one of the first states to pass another no-brainer;

Last week the River Region United Way Pacesetter Campaign began and runs through July 15th.  It's a great way to jumpstart the United Way public campaign.  Kudos to these companies for giving early and generously.

As we approach the kick-off of the public campaign on August 12th, I ask that you keep a few things in mind.

  • 85% of every gift goes directly to the United Way agencies that help your neighbors.  Very few fundraising organizations are that efficient.
  • There is no gift too small.  There is power in numbers.  If everyone gives a little, we'll meet our goal.
  • Whether you realize it or not, you probably know someone who is helped through an agency of the River Region United Way.
  • And most importantly during this campaign remember… when the economy is down, the need for services goes up.  Now is not the time to ignore our neighbors in need.

Follow the example of this year's Pacesetter organizations and give early and give generously to the River Region United Way.
