Possible double drowning on the Alabama River

ELMORE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - Tragedy strikes twice on the Alabama River near Prattville.

It all happened very close to the Alabama River Bridge off Highway 31.

One man has drowned and now it appears a second man has also drowned about three hundred yards away.

Family members told WSFA 12 News Reporter Bryan Henry that Willie Thomas Goodson was a good swimmer but he may have gotten caught in the under tow or branches underwater.

Goodson was 26 years old and was swimming with friends and his brother yesterday. Divers found his body around 11:30 this morning.

The second apparent drowning involved an 18 year old man.

Elmore County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ricky Lowery says divers will continue to search for the second body throughout the evening And will continue if need be tomorrow.

They have not yet released the name of the missing man.
