Montgomery, AL (WSFA) -The Montgomery Police Department will hold its annual Junior Police Academy on June 21-25, 2010, at the Outdoor Range, located at 5880 Old Hayneville Road.
Rising sixth grade students from the Weed and Seed community will participate in this program as cadets.
Law enforcement officials from a number of agencies will speak on their particular areas of expertise at the event. The officials will also converse with the young cadets after presentations.
The Junior Police Academy offers an opportunity for positive relationships to develop between local law enforcement officers and the youth of the community.
The program also provides an environment conducive to improve interactions for the students, both with each other and law enforcement, in a safe, educational, and fun setting.
The training day will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until the Parks and Recreation Department transports students back to the Goode Street Community Center.
The training will wrap up on June 25 with a graduation ceremony to be held at the Jubilee Community Center located at 432 Goldthwaite Street in Montgomery. All graduating cadets will receive a plaque for their completion of the program.
Extensive participation of local law enforcement agencies, local businesses, and the Federal Weed and Seed Program, have all made the Junior Police Academy possible.
