LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - A woman is dead in Lee County and officials are trying to piece together what happened.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says authorities received a 911 call around 2:30 Sunday morning in reference to a possible pedestrian being hit by a car in the 7000 block of Alabama Highway 51 south of Opelika in Beauregard.
When authorities arrived, they found 41-year-old Terrie Reaves lying in the roadway with no signs of life. Harris says Reaves is from the Beauregard community and pronounced her dead at the scene at 3:25 AM.
Exactly what happened leading up the accident is still somewhat unclear, according to officials.
The coroner says Reaves may have jumped from a moving vehicle that was traveling south on Alabama Highway 51. Then, another vehicle traveling south struck Reaves as she lay in the roadway.
Reaves suffered multiple blunt force injuries in the accident.
Her body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Medical Examiner's office in Montgomery for an autopsy.
The incident is being investigated by the Lee County Sheriff's office, the Lee County Coroner, the Alabama State Troopers and the Alabama Dept of Forensic Sciences.
