MONTGOMERY, AL - The Alabama Supreme Court has once again cleared the way for the governor's gambling task force to raid the Greenetrack electronic bingo casino at Eutaw.
The court's ruling at about 5 p.m. Wednesday ended a daylong legal standoff at the casino about 80 miles southeast of Birmingham.
Greene County Circuit Judge Eddie Hardaway had issued an order shortly before midnight Tuesday that stopped task force commander John Tyson Jr. from seizing the electronic bingo machines. He considers them to be illegal slot machines.
In Wednesday afternoon's order the court, in a 7-2 ruling, said Hardaway had no authority to interfere with the task force's raid Tuesday night. The court ordered Greene County officials to allow the task force members to re-enter Greenetrack and resume seizure operations.
