Opelika man injured in motorcycle wreck last week dies

OPELIKA, Ala. - A motorcycle-minivan collision last Wednesday afternoon, June 23, has claimed the life of 21-year-old Terrance Jenkins, who lists an Opelika address.

He died Wednesday afternoon at the Columbus Regional Medical Center from complications of injuries he received in the collision.

Jenkins was the operator of a motorcycle that was attempting to make a left hand turn onto the southbound ramp of I-85 at the intersection of Gateway Drive and Interstate Drive last Wednesday.

He turned in front of a northbound minivan on Gateway Drive and was struck, throwing him to the roadway.

He was airlifted by Lifesaver helicopter from the scene to the Medical Center in Columbus.  He underwent surgery for his injuries while at the Medical Center but his condition declined and he went into respiratory arrest  and could not be revived.

The driver of the minivan was not injured.  The accident is being investigated by the Opelika Police Department and the Lee County Coroner.  No charges are expected.
