FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WAFF) – Police have located a 14-year-old girl who was missing for hours.
A missing child alert was issued Saturday morning for Kaitlin Hamer, who was last seen Friday night at her Petersburg, Tennessee home just outside of Fayetteville.
Her mother Ann Sanford told WAFF 48 News she believes Hamer snuck out of the house Friday night and met up with a 23-year-old man she met through a friend.
Sanford said her daughter's best friend received a text message from the teen at about six Saturday morning saying, "I'm locked in a room, it locks from the outside. The windows are too high. I can't get out."
Sanford spent the afternoon at an apartment complex on 12th Street in southwest Huntsville looking for her daughter.
She said police told her it's where the man lives.
Sanford said her daughter had been talking to the man for about a month, but she did not know just how old he was and that he lived in Huntsville.
