Many Alabamians still waiting for tax returns

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama officials say more than 24,000 individuals or married couples who are owed state income refunds still haven't received them.

Revenue department spokeswoman Carla Snellgrove says the state has sent more than 1.2 million personal income tax refunds to taxpayers worth more than $548 million so far this fiscal year.

Snellgrove says the state also has approved payment of another $15.4 million in refunds for 24,406 individuals or couples.

Finance Director Bill Newton says he doesn't know exactly when those refunds will be paid.
