MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has been arrested on a drug charge in Alabama.
Mobile County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles said the 24-year-old football player was arrested Monday afternoon at his home during an undercover investigation. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Myles said Russell had codeine syrup without a prescription. Russell and his agent did not immediately return calls for comment.
Online records show he was booked into the Mobile jail and released not long after on $2,500 bond.
Russell was released from the Raiders in May, just three years after being the No. 1 overall draft pick. He graduated from high school in Mobile and played for Louisiana State University for three years.
