MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Bradley Byrne is raising donations three times faster than his opponent, Robert Bentley, for the Republican runoff for governor on Tuesday. Both candidates filed campaign finance reports with the secretary of state Thursday.
Byrne reported receiving $2 million in donations since late May. Bentley reported $621,000. Bentley has remained competitive by making loans to his campaign. The Tuscaloosa physician reports that he has lent his campaign $750,000 for the runoff. Bentley largely self-financed his primary campaign, where he finished second to Byrne.
