Southeastern Hornets win in opening round of AAU National Tournament

Orlando, FL - The Southeastern Hornets of Phenix City, AL, an organization which consist of 13 year old and 14 year old basketball players respectively, advanced to the second round of competition in the AAU National Tournament Friday. The AAU event brings together the most competitive and elite teams from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands to compete to be crowned AAU National Champions.
The Hornets gave an outstanding performance on Thursday by defeating the Team Shockaz, of Louisiana, by the score of 66-50. Three Hornets scored in double figures with Power Forward Devin Pugh leading all scorers with 18pts. Center JaQuan Oates finished with a double double adding 16pts and 16 rebounds. Shooting Guard Devonta Lindsey contributed 12 points including two key 3 pointers that sparked the team. The Hornets Head Coach Carlton Jones sums the win up by saying, "Our boys put on a good demonstration of team ball, aggressiveness and showmanship as they went on to victory.  Our bench players really stepped up and provided valuable minutes."
There are a total of 116 teams in this year's AAU Nationals. The teams are broken down into pools with four teams for each respective pool. Only half of the 116 teams will survive the pool play and advance to the Championship Bracket Play. Bracket Play begins on Sunday and concludes on Wednesday, July 21, ending with the Championship game. Next up for the Hornets are the hometown favorites, the Orlando Spartans.
