Montgomery man charged with trying to arrange killing

Police in Montgomery say a man charged earlier this year with capital murder in the death of his 2-year-old son is now charged with attempting to hire someone to murder an acquaintance.

Montgomery Police Department spokesman Keith Barnett says an informant notified authorities that Jonathan Katan was trying to make contact with someone he would pay to murder the unidentified acquaintance.

Barnett says that after an undercover investigation, Katan was charged with solicitation on a bond of $60,000.

Katan was charged in February in the death of his 2-year-old son, Preston, who was found dead in Katan's home. An autopsy showed the child died of blunt force injuries to the head.
