15-year-old drowns in Coosa River near Wetumpka

WETUMPKA, AL (WSFA) - A 15-year-old is the victim of drowning in Wetumpka says the assistant chief of police.

The child, not identified by name or gender, was at the locks near the Bibb Graves Bridge across from Goldstar Park when the accident happened.

The victim and friends were swimming when he or she got into trouble and was unable to reach the other swimmers.

The Wetumpka Fire Department arrived on the scene Monday evening a short time after the incident and was able to recover the body.

The Alabama Marine Police are now handling the investigation. No other information was immediately available.
