BIRMINGHAM—Four members of the Alabama State University football team were named to the preseason All-Southwestern Athletic Conference team. The team was voted on by media members, coaches and sports information directors and was released at the 2010 SWAC Football Media Days.
Nick Andrews, Maplesville, was named First-Team All-SWAC as a wide receiver. The junior had 47 receptions in 2009 for a total of 803 yards and five touchdowns. He was named second team All-SWAC last season.
Kynjee Cotton, Daphne, was named to the second team as a defensive lineman. He led ASU with 14 tackles for loss last season and also had 6.5 sacks and blocked two kicks.
Bruce Beal, St. Louis, Mo., was named to the All-SWAC Second Team on the offensive line. He enters his senior season with plenty of experience after playing and starting 10 games last season.
The fourth preseason pick was defensive back Donovan Masline, Jacksonville, Fla. The junior was named to the second team after leading the Hornets with 14 passes broken up last season and finishing the season with 35 stops.
The Hornets were picked to finish fourth in the East Division. Alabama A&M was picked to win the East, Jackson State second and Alcorn State third. Mississippi Valley State University was picked to finish fifth in the East.
