Dothan, AL (WSFA) – The sweltering summer heat is bringing in extra business for Dothan's Water World.
Eunice Bricks and her family found out about Water World online and made the trip down from Phenix City.
Bricks said, "The children had a little boredom, so we decided to get out and have some fun."
The family usually goes to the beach during the summer, but decided against it this year.
"We were afraid of the water. We didn't know if it would be contaminated," Bricks added.
Instead, they looked for alternative places to vacation, and they're not alone.
Water World General Manager Robin Patrick says they have had a strong season so far, and many of the patrons are from out of town.
"Over 60 % of people who come to Water World are from outside Houston County. We have a lot of people who come in and ask us where the closes hotel is," she added.
It's creating a splash for the local economy, but as for the Bricks family—it's just the perfect place to keep cool
Managers also say they sell a large number of season tickets, meaning the folks who live in the area are also choosing to spend part of their vacation there as well.
Numbers for July are already up by nearly 2,000 compared to July 2009.
They say they expect their August numbers to be just as high.
