DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - One man is dead and a Dothan Police officer is in the hospital after an incident Thursday evening. It's believed the officer's injuries are not life threatening.

Now, the Alabama Bureau of Investigation is involved in the case since an officer was involved in a shooting.

The man, unidentified, was believed by Dothan Narcotics agents to be involved in a drug deal.

The incident started when officers approached the man's vehicle, which was located in the parking lot of the Hop-In gas station at the corner of U.S. 84 and Westgate.

Officers allegedly attempted to apprehend the suspect when he sped out of the parking lot, subsequently striking two officers during his get away.

Other officers on the scene opened fire and the suspect was hit. He then crashed into a tree across the street from the gas station where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Two other suspects on the scene were taken into custody. Charges against those suspects was not immediately known.

When the investigation is concluded, authorities will turn over a report to the Houston County District Attorney's Office for review.
