    In my editorial on Tuesday I chided our legislators for being the last state to pass a no-brainer  bill legalizing home brewing.  Today I want to challenge them to be one of the first states to pass another no-brainer;

    Kudos, or perhaps, cheers to the Alabama Legislature for passing HB9, the home brewing bill. Legalized home brewing may not be up there with education reform or prison funding, but it was overdue.

Editorial:  June 22, 2010:  Food and Fund Drive

Over $12,000 and nearly 4,000 pounds of food… that's what YOU gave to the Montgomery Area food Bank last Friday during WSFA 12 News' annual Fund and Food Drive, and we thank you.

Thanks also to the folks at Dixie Electric Cooperative, Cumulus Broadcasting and The Atlanta Highway Wal-Mart, who helped make the event a success.

The Montgomery Area Food Bank currently serves 12 counties and 3 additional distribution centers and will soon expand to 34 counties.  Even more of your neighbors.

Nationally, the demand for food given through agencies is up 30%.  Holiday's create shortages as does summertime, when school lunch programs are not in force.  Your neighbors' children.

75% of the food Bank's distributing agencies are churches, perhaps your neighborhood church.

Again, to all who gave on Friday, thank you.  And to all who didn't get the chance to donate, you can still give.   Go to the community page of wsfa.com to find out how.

Remember, every dollar you give buys 6 ½ pounds of food for someone who's hungry.
