Andalusia mother, boyfriend jailed for abusing 1-year-old daughter

Associated Press - July 27, 2010 7:54 AM ET

ANDALUSIA, Ala. (AP) - A 20-year-old Andalusia woman and her boyfriend are being held in the Covington County Jail, charged with abusing the woman's 1-year-old daughter.

Sgt. Ray Dixon of the Andalusia Police Department says Tiffany Ann Riley and 24-year-old Jermaine Pate of Butler County are charged with torture/willful abuse of a child.

Dixon says the two were arrested Friday and accused of breaking the girl's arm in three places, dragging her up a flight of stairs and locking her in a bedroom so they could eat lunch without hearing the child crying.

Dixon says Riley took her daughter to a doctor four days after her arm was broken. The girl was later placed in protective custody.

Dixon says Riley and Pate are being held on $250,000 bond. Pate also faces a charge of violating probation.
