Casino loses in court but customer wins jackpot

SHORTER, Ala. (AP) - The VictoryLand Casino in Macon County was a loser in a case before the Alabama Supreme Court Friday, but one of its customers was a big winner on an electronic bingo machine.

The Supreme Court overturned an order from Circuit Judge Tom Young that had blocked Gov. Bob Riley's gambling task force from raiding VictoryLand and confiscating its machines.

But on the same day that the casino's lawyers were trying to figure out the meaning of the court order, Vicki Stevenson of Pensacola, Fla., hit the jackpot on an electronic bingo machine called 100 Wolves.

Track officials said Stevenson won $987,380.60. It was the second biggest jackpot awarded at VictoryLand. When asked what she would do with the money, Stevenson said, "spend it."
