MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The commander of Gov. Bob Riley's task force on illegal gambling has asked a Macon County judge to lift an order that had blocked any raid at the Victoryland casino at Shorter. He'll soon get an answer.
Macon Co. Circuit Judge Tom Young will hold an emergency hearing on the matter Thursday.
Task force commander John Tyson filed the motion Monday after the Alabama Supreme Court's ruling overturned Judge Young's order and sent the case back to him to dispose of the issue.
Tyson said if Young grants the motion, the task force could immediately raid Victoryland, which has more than 6,000 electronic bingo machines.
It's the only non-Indian casino still operating.
The Supreme Court's ruling Friday overturned Young's finding that Tyson did not have the authority to conduct raids without the consent of local officials.
