Suspect in missing child case captured

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Fifteen hours after two children, 5-year-old Dylan Lane Guthrie and a 3-week-old unnamed baby, were abducted in Dadeville, they've been reunited with their mothers and both suspects are in custody.

The Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of individuals breaking into a home on Highway 49 south in Notasulga around 1:00am. After arriving, witnesses reported that Randall Keith Weldon, 20, and Christopher William Guthrie, 24, broke into the home through the back door. 

Guthrie took his son and left with Weldon, who also took his own 3-week-old biological son. It was also reported that Guthrie and Weldon assaulted Jody Smith, an acquaintance in the residence. 

A short time later the Tallapoosa County Sheriff's Department Elmore County Sheriff's Department located Randall Keith Weldon and returned the 3 week old son to the mother, Crystal Haney Weldon in Elmore County. 

Most of the rest of the day was spent searching for Guthrie and his child. Word broke around 4:00pm that youngster Dylan was found safe in Elmore County. Within an hour, authorities announced they'd also located the boy's father. He was hiding in a wooded area in the county.

Guthrie now faces Interference with Custody, Assault 2nd, Burglary 1st charges.
