Former BCBS employee charged with identity theft

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A Blue Cross Blue Shield employee has been fired after being charged with stealing identities of members.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office recently arrested Latonia Davis, 32, on a charge of identity theft.

Blue Cross Blue Shield said Davis tried to obtain credit by using health insurance information of 15 members.

"Although this is an isolated incident, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama takes the security of our members' health information seriously," Blue Cross Blue Shield said Thursday in a statement to FOX6 News. "We will continue to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to protect the security and integrity of our members' health information."

BCBS said Davis is no longer an employee.

As an additional measure of protection for the members affected, BCBS said it has arranged for three years of free credit and theft monitoring services.
