School clean up effort gets trashed

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Hours of sweat and elbow grease donated by volunteers got reversed by a neighborhood party that turned heated.

A skirmish at the park located directly beside Houston Hill Junior High School left the school grounds in disarray just a day before the start of classes.

Saturday morning, Houston Hill Junior High School's lawn looked like a party for volunteers who cleaned up for hours. Later that evening it turned into a party of a different kind.

Beer bottles, food wrappers and trash speckled the lawn of the school and the neighboring park. The litter was the result of a neighborhood reunion party for folks in the Tulane Court and Houston Hills neighborhoods that ended abruptly.

It took Montgomery Police officers two times to run more than one hundred people off the property.

School administrators say they plan to have all the trash cleaned up before the bell rings at 7:30 tomorrow morning.
