MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - The remainder of Alabama's state waters is to reopen to recreational catch & keep fishing at 6 a.m. on Monday.
Maj. Chris Blankenship of the Marine Resources Division says the area includes waters north of the Fort Morgan Peninsula and Pelican Bay.
He says the area north of the peninsula will also be open to commercial shrimping. But the state's offshore waters and those in Pelican Bay will remain closed to shrimping until more testing is complete.
Some fishermen and seafood processors worry that authorities may be too eager to reopen water to fishing. But Blankenship says Alabama's rigorous testing standards make him believe the Gulf of Mexico's seafood is safe to eat.
