MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP/WSFA) - A Republican justice on the Alabama Supreme Court has given a $5,000 campaign donation to a Democratic candidate who is trying to unseat a Republican on the court.
Justice Tom Woodall says he gave the donation last week to Democratic Circuit Judge Mac Parsons of Jefferson County. Parsons is running against Republican Supreme Court Justice Tom Parker. Woodall told the New York Times Regional Newspapers that the donation speaks for itself.
Woodall is a former circuit judge in Jefferson County and briefly served with Parsons. Parsons called Woodall "a fine justice," but he said they haven't discussed the contribution.
A spokesman for the Alabama Republican Party, Philip Bryan, said the party fully supports Parker.
Parker's campaign issued a two sentence statement saying: "Mac Parsons is a left-wing, Obama Democrat. No amount of money is going to convince Alabama voters to elect him in the Fall."
