TALLADEGA, AL (WSFA) - Veteran state senator Jim Preuitt is dropping his campaign for re-election.
Preuitt had switched from the Democratic party to the Republican party to run this year.
Tonight, he announced his heart is not in the race and he will not seek a sixth term.
Preuitt was to face democrat Jerry Fielding in the November election.
Alabama Republican Party Chairman, Mike Hubbard, says he will seek guidance from the secretary of state's office on the possibility of selecting a replacement candidate.
