MONTGOMERY, AL - Row crop farmer Shep Morris of Shorter, Ala., has been selected as the 2010 state winner of the Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year award.
As the Alabama winner, Morris joins nine other farmers from the Southeast as finalists for the award. The overall winner will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the Sunbelt Ag Expo farm show in Moultrie, Ga.
Morris plants conventional cotton varieties using ridge tillage and harvests his cotton with a stripper machine.
The award showcases excellence in agricultural production and recognizes farmers for producing safe, abundant and economical supplies of food, fiber and shelter.
