Woman dies from injures sustained in Lee County auto accident

A female passenger involved in a two vehicle accident on Saturday has died from her injuries, according to a news release from the Lee County Coroner's Office.

Amanda Polston, 23, who listed an Auburn address, was declared brain dead Sunday at 9:50 a.m. from multiple blunt force injuries she sustained in a motor vehicle accident Saturday morning around 11:30 a.m. on Shug Jordan Parkway near the Wire Road intersection.

Polston was a front seat passenger in a Pontiac Sunfire driven by 22-year-old Travis Bishop, who also listed and Auburn address. The vehicle was traveling east on Shug Jordan when he apparently veered into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck a Toyota Sequoia almost head-on.

Polston had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Auburn Fire Department.

Bishop was airlifted by AirEvac to the Columbus Regional Hospital in critical condition. He remains in the hospital there. The driver and passengers of the Sequoia were transported to EAMC for treatment and their condition is unknown at this time, but it is believed that their injuries were non-life threatening. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Auburn Police Department and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
